Murder Mystery Party for some Crime-Solving Fun combined with a Birthday Celebration! This unique party idea is also a very popular party theme in October...when everyone is looking for good Halloween party ideas! With the popularity of crime scene investigation shows such as CSI these days, it's no wonder that many people fantasize of becoming forensic scientists themselves. It has been called the CSI effect! However, you can relieve the exciting tasks of forensic scientists through role playing. With role playing, you get to experience more or less the thrill of investigating a crime and the crime scene, without the hitch should you make a wrong move.

Setting up a murder mystery party is a great way to celebrate the birthdays of teens and adults alike. Whether you choose to use it as a theme or one of the events during the celebration, a murder mystery party will surely be a great way to keep your guests entertained - and guests will surely remember the event for the days to come! Just make sure you have challenging crimes for the guests to solve to keep their excitement up all the time.

There are a lot of things you can do to decorate the place and make the scene look more like a murder really happened there. You can ask someone to lie down on the floor and trace his or her outline with a chalk. This way you get an outline of a full-sized human body on the floor -- just imagine the reaction of your guests when they arrive! You can also leave actual footprints, fingerprints and riddles around, or anything you can think of that will give your guests hours of fun while searching for clues. If you got a huge space, you can use multiple areas, each one having a different case to crack. This will add to the delight of your guests as they form teams and beat one another in solving the mystery case.

To make the experience more realistic, you may also set up a laboratory, complete with items commonly found in a police investigations lab, like microscopes, test tubes and different colored fake chemicals. This is where they can collate all the clues they have gathered, compare notes and get the surprise of their lives as they slowly get to uncover the perpetrator of the unsolved crime. If you are a regular viewer of shows such as CSI, you can even make your favorite episode as the inspiration for your murder mystery party. Of course, you might want to downplay the case a little bit, especially if most of your guests are kids. You don't want them spending a lot of effort on something that is virtually impossible for them to be able to solve.

When it comes to food, you can have cakes custom made to fit perfectly within your murder mystery party. You can order a cake in the shape of a police badge, or finger foods like cookies in the shape of footprints or thumbprints. But make sure that you also include foods that little kids will surely enjoy -- goodies that are normally found in regular children's parties. Since most of your guests will be running around trying to solve the crime, you should also have lots of bottled soda or water should they become thirsty. You can be as imaginative as you want to be when it comes to the food, balloons, backdrop, giveaways and others.

Your guests may not be real life crime and crime scene investigators, but they will definitely have the same thrill. A murder mystery party is an exciting way to let your guests relieve their dreams of becoming one of those CSI characters.
